Programmed to support the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) at Hurlburt Field, FL, this project includes a two-story, 64,000 SF Visitor’s Quarters with 120 guest rooms, business center and other related amenities (including food service); a single-story, 20,000 SF Consolidated Club facility with three large banquet rooms, two meeting rooms, bars and supporting full-service food preparation kitchen facilities; and a single-story, 16,000 SF Joint Operations Planning Facility that provides an environment in which to conduct secure, classified briefings, planning sessions and other operational sensitive meetings that require facilities complying with DCID 6/9 standards for SCIF construction.
Design challenges included the development and refinement of the architectural character provided in the Design/Build bridging document design to reflect the “Craftsman Style” architecture and character envisioned by the Base as well as the preparation of fast track construction documents to allow construction to commence as quickly as possible.
Another challenge was the integration of on-site stormwater facilities on a site that is located directly adjacent to the Santa Rosa Sound and jurisdictional wetlands. This called for a minimization of the appearance of such elements, while addressing stormwater quality and quantity management practices required by the regional permitting agency.
