This new, three-story, 490 space parking garage provides needed accessible parking for the adjoining spinal injury unit of the Charlie Norwood VAMC . The entire ground floor of this garage is 100% designated accessible parking space with over half of those utilized by spinal patients. The upper two floors of the garage are designated for
employee parking. The garage is designed so that three more levels can be added at a future date to extend the capacity up above 1,000 spaces.
The solicitation for this design/build project outlined a design schedule of 175 days. The SPS design team realized that parking is a major problem at this campus and decided to make a concentrated effort to better this schedule so that these new spaces could be made available as soon as possible. We were able to deliver our final design submittal in 132 days; only 75% of the design duration originally envisioned. We were able to completely eliminate the intermediate
construction document phase submittal and went from 35% design phase approval straight to the 100% design phase submittal.
